Assistant Coach Jenn Nesland
Jenn began playing volleyball in the 7th grade and played all the way through high school, quickly becoming the team setter. She was a two sport athlete, running track as a sprinter. In high school she lettered all 4 years in track as well as earning a varsity letter her senior year in volleyball. Jenn ended her high school athletic career as The Female Athlete of the Year at Columbia River High School as well as being a four-year Scholar Athlete and numerous other athletic awards. After high school, Jenn played volleyball for pleasure joining a City League Coed Team playing 6s and quads and has played on a women's team for the last two years in Vancouver.
Taking up coaching has been a fun and rewarding way to continue her involvement in her favorite sport. Jenn starting out coaching at Skyview High School in 1999 with the Freshman team. She remained involved with the Skyview program for 5 years as a coach (and in between having babies) assisting the other coaches. After a few years off, she began coaching again at Union High School and assisted in getting their volleyball program started. After three years as the Head Coach of the Freshman team, she moved up to Head Coach the JV team for another two years. Putting her high school coaching career on hold, she now only coaches her daughter's Recreational Summer League Team at the Firstenberg Center.
When asked why she coaches, Jenn will tell you that first and foremost it's to be around the girls and to invest in their lives. She has a passion for youth and feels coaching is an opportunity to not only better the girls as players, but as people. The girls are her reason for coaching and volleyball is the bonus! She hopes to instill in the girls a love and knowledge for the sport, the spirit of good sportsmanship, and using their gifts to the best of their ability. On top of that, she had a coach who richly touched her life on and off the court and she loves having the opportunity to pay it forward.
While Jenn is unable to commit to coaching a club team of her own right now, volunteering offers the perfect amount of commitment for her life and family. She is thrilled to be a part of the coaching team at NW Reign as a volunteer coach!
