Meet the Coaches
Jen will be joining NW Reign for the first time this 2017 season. We are really excited to have her on board not just for her coaching experience, but for her love for the game and passion to grow and develop the next generation of athletes.
Jen played club volleyball for Nike NW Jrs Volleyball Club (now Adidas NW) from 97-2003, and at Gresham High School winning the Oregon State Championships her Junior and Senior year. Jen was voted most inspirational and received all league awards her Junior and Senior year. After her juniors and high school career Jen continued on a full volleyball scholarship at University of Mississippi in the SEC conference where she was the starting setter and co-captain for two seasons before transferring to Portland State University to play.
After college Jen began coaching. Jen has 8 years of club volleyball experience coaching 16U/14U teams. She has coached for various clubs in the NW but has spent most of her seasons coaching with her hometown club Adidas NW winning multiple tournaments and power leagues. In addition to club coaching Jen also coaches the freshman team at Ridgefield High School and is currently in her 4th season with the Spudders. Jen also coaches during the off season. She has run multiple summer camps with her most recent being at NW Reign. Jen also has years of experience giving private lessons and helping athletes work on specific skill sets to help them reach their next level of play. Jen specializes in defense/setting, but has extensive knowledge of hitting, blocking, teamwork, and many other aspects of the game. She teaches a high level of systematic volleyball which prepares athletes for high level play and transitioning into their next level of play.
When asked about her coaching style Jen said “My philosophy is 100% effort 100% of the time. I love to see individual and team growth and the excitement that comes with it. I focus on improving physical technique, a driven and persistent attitude, and building trust and relationships with teammates.”
When Jen is not coaching she likes to: play volleyball, go on hikes, be active and outdoors, and spend as much time as possible with my husband, Brent, and two sons, Kyler and Kolten.
Grew up in Hockinson, and played at HHS earning all league honors and helping Hockinson to their first state tournament in 2008 and again in 2009. Leslie played club for 2 years and was recruited and received an athletic and academic scholarship to play for Concordia University- Portland. Leslie played at CU for 5 years, red shirting her first year. She started all four years as a DS/ Libero. She was a daktronic scholar athlete all 5 years and was voted Scholar Athlete of the Year by the coaches, and athletic faculty at Concordia. She helped lead the Cavaliers to the national tournament in 2014, which broke the 12 year drought from nationals for the volleyball team. Leslie was voted most inspirational 3 times in college, received the Coaches award and the relentless award given by the volleyball speed/agility and weightlifting coach.
After college, Leslie started working as a Health and Physical Education teacher at Hockinson High School. She just started her second year teaching there and first year as the JV volleyball coach. Leslie has been with reign for 5 years. Starting up when she was a sophomore in college. She has coached 14’s and 16’s while at reign. Favorite quote that I always played by and try to instill in my players, “The harder you work, the harder it is to surrender.” I love teaching girls solid volleyball fundamentals, being disciplined in their technique and giving 100% every single play.
Spare time: I like to play volleyball, workout, kayak, cook, work around the house, hang out with my husband, Daniel, and my amazing family and nieces and nephew!
